The Water and Land Resource Center (WLRC), Addis Ababa University (AAU), exhibited posters and displayed its publications at the Addis Ababa University 2019 Research Week that was held in the premises of Sidist Kilo Campus, 27–31 May 2019.

WLRC presented posters on Carbon Stock Assessment at Watershed and National Levels; Exit Strategy, Performance and Sustainability Assessment for Watershed Management (ESPAWM) Computerized System; National Land Cover Change Map of Ethiopia (1986 & 2016); Achievements and Impacts of the Learning Watershed Approach; A synthesized results of REACH: improving water security for the poor; Soil Erosion (by basin and national levels), Sedimentation and Sustainable Land Management in Ethiopia; SWC Requirements and Composite Land Management Practices in Ethiopia; The Distribution, Extent and Severity of Soil Acidity in Ethiopia; Soil Types and Soil Depth Update of Ethiopia (1:250,000); Set-ups and results of Long-term Hydro-sedimentology Monitoring in Observatories; and Water and Land Resource Information Systems (WALRIS), and many others. Its booth was visited by a large number of people, including the Senior Management members and Senior professors of the AAU. The concerned technical staff members served the necessary explanations to the visitors. The Center also received large number of requests for its publications and other knowledge products.

Furthermore, WLRC Director General Dr. Gete Zeleke, Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, was a panelist on the Natural Science panel, where  he talked about on how to shape, influence and inform policy to improve NRM outcomes in the country with special emphasis on lessons from WLRC actions. Besides, a WLRC research fellow Hailu Shiferaw also gave insightful oral presentation on the management of Prosopis juliflora, one of the invasive alien species that has become a threat to the natural flora in the north-eastern part of Ethiopia, including the Lower Awash Basin.

At the closing of the event, WLRC was awarded a trophy for standing third out of the ten colleges and ten research institutes of the AAU, in the category of “Institutions that Made Best Poster and Oral Presentations and Overall Contribution during the event”. The Research Week was closed on the 31st of May 2019. Speaking at the closing ceremony, the AAU President Prof. Tassew Woldehanna and the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer Dr. Mitikie Molla also expressly acknowledged WLRC’s participation and quality as well as diversity of research work that it displayed at the event.
